    Results of the extension of packaging collected via the blue bag

    Since the remodelling of the sorting facility at the end of 2018 and the extension of the collection of packaging waste via the blue bag in July 2021, the quantities of packaging waste collected have gone up by 33.23 %, while the quantity of PMC (Plastic, Metal and beverage Cartons) packaging put on the market has only gone up by 1.3 %.

    Honnertzwanzeg Sekonnen 06/2022: Are bioplastics a solution for more environmentally-friendly packaging?

    The term “bioplastic” has 2 meanings:

    1. biobased plastic, which is produced with biological and renewable materials (such as corn starch or cellulose); and/or
    2. biodegradable plastic, which can also contain conventional plastic.

     

    Biobased plastic is not necessarily biodegradable.

     

    Some companies are choosing this option for their packaging, but does it really have a lesser impact on the environment than conventional plastic?

    Honnertzwanzeg Sekonnen 05/2022: Is composite packaging recyclable?

    Some flexible and multi-layer packaging, such as crisps bags, coffee and loose tea packets, are composed of different materials. Even tough composite packaging can be interesting to use for the storage of foods, its use has a negative impact on the recycling rate. Big quantities of these packaging materials are put on the Luxembourg market every year and they are neither collected, nor recycled.
