The CO2e reduction calculator

The global warming is a major problem and the greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) reduction becomes a priority for everyone.

  • Who is this calculator aimed at?
It is aimed at the Parties Responsible for the Packaging, in particular at the VALORLUX members, and at the Packaging Collectors (municipalities / intermunicipal unions) that take part in the collection and recycling system set up by VALORLUX.
  • A common measurement: the CO2e
The CO2-equivalent represents the amount of carbon dioxide (the CO2 is the best known gas) that would have the same relative warming effect as the basket of GHG actually emitted.
For example, 1000 km driven by a petrol car with a consumption of 6l/100km corresponds to a 180 kg CO2-equivalent emission.
  • A comparison tool
You can calculate the real CO2 emissions related to the activities of collection, transportation, treatment and recycling of the packaging waste in the system set up by VALORLUX. This result is then compared with the CO2e emissions related to the production of similar quantities of new packaging materials with raw materials*.
  • Personalized results
For a given year, each user can quantify the CO2e emissions (total and per material) avoided thanks to the recycling of his/her packaging.

Calculate your CO2e reduction

If you are a VALORLUX member, you can ask for a CO2e reduction certificate. This certificate w ill be done on hand of the packaging quantities declared by the member.

* This calculation, which is based on the data of the literature, does not take into account space and time conditions.

Obtain a certificate

The Party Responsible for the Packaging represents “anyone who has packed or ordered the packaging of products in Luxembourg in order to sell them or place them on the Luxembourg market, or if some products are placed on the Luxembourg market and have not been packed in Luxembourg, the importer of the packed products, with the exception of private persons who consume the products themselves”.
Are considered as Packaging Collectors the municipalities and/or the intermunicipal unions that are in charge of the collection of packaging waste on their area through the following means: door-to-door collection (PMC blue bags with the VALORLUX system as well as glass and paper/cardboard), public containers (glass and paper/cardboard) and recycling parks (all packaging items).
